After Hours Information

St Mary Medical Centre is open 7 days a week with some of the longest GP hours in the Osborne Park area - but health problems don't always keep to a schedule. This page explains what to do when you need care outside our opening hours.

In an emergency, always call 000

If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency - such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, sudden weakness or loss of consciousness - call 000 immediately or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. Do not wait for the practice to open.

Hospital emergency departments near Osborne Park

Please note that Osborne Park Hospital does not have an emergency department. The nearest emergency departments to our practice are:

• Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital - Hospital Avenue, Nedlands. The closest major adult emergency department to Osborne Park, open 24 hours.
• Perth Children's Hospital - 15 Hospital Avenue, Nedlands. Perth's dedicated children's emergency department, open 24 hours.
• Joondalup Health Campus - Cnr Grand Boulevard & Shenton Avenue, Joondalup. 24-hour emergency department treating both adults and children, north of our catchment.

Current emergency department wait times for Perth's public hospitals are published on the WA Health emergency department activity page. In a life-threatening situation, always call 000 rather than driving.

Urgent care that isn't an emergency

If you have an injury or illness that can't wait for a GP appointment but isn't life-threatening - such as a suspected minor fracture, sprain, minor burn or infection - an urgent care clinic can treat you without a hospital wait:

• Perth City Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Morley) - 40 Rudloc Road, Morley. Walk in, no appointment or referral needed, open 7 days from 8am to 10pm. Bulk billed - free with a Medicare card.
• St John Urgent Care (Osborne Park) - 435 Scarborough Beach Rd, Osborne Park WA 6017. A private walk-in urgent care option close to the practice. Fees apply, with Medicare rebates available - check current fees with the clinic before attending.

Our opening hours

With early mornings, evenings until 9pm and weekend appointments, many "after hours" needs can actually be seen at the practice the same day or the following morning. You can check real-time availability and book any time, day or night, via HotDoc.

Need a doctor when we're closed?

When the practice is closed, our patients can access after hours GP care through Dial A Doctor, our nominated after hours locum service.

Dial A Doctor provides home visits by a doctor outside normal practice hours. Following an after hours consultation, you can ask for a summary to be provided to your regular GP at St Mary Medical Centre so your ongoing care stays coordinated.

Free health advice, 24 hours a day

If you're not sure how urgent your situation is, you can speak to a registered nurse at any time of the day or night:

healthdirect - 1800 022 222 (free call). A nurse can assess your symptoms over the phone and advise whether you need emergency care, an after hours doctor, or an appointment with your GP when we open. Eligible adult callers in WA can also be referred by healthdirect to the WA Virtual Emergency Department for a clinical assessment by video (available 8am to 10pm), which can avoid the need to attend an emergency department at all.

When we reopen

For anything that can wait until our next opening hours, book online via HotDoc at any time - appointments are released for every session, including our 7am starts and weekend clinics. If you had an after hours consultation, it's a good idea to book a follow-up with your regular GP so we can review what happened and update your records.
